Drones set to save UK industries up to £16bn

The rising popularity in drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) in the UK will result in up to £16bn in net cost savings for businesses by 2030, according to PwC.

The technology, media and telecommunications industry will see the biggest saving of £4.8bn, whilst the construction and manufacturing industry will see a £3.5bn net cost saving and the transport and logistics industry will save £2.8bn.

The savings will come from drones lowering costs and improving productivity by automating tasks, enhancing safety performance and freeing up people to work on other value-added projects within the workplace.

As well as the savings, the increase in drone usage could see the UK gross domestic product (GDP) increase by £42bn due to a rise in consumer activity, and the creation of around 628,000 jobs within the drone economy.
